Why visit Pliva Waterfall?

Very few towns have a waterfall in the middle of them. In Jajce, the Pliva river drops about 22 meters straight into the Vrbas, right below the old town walls. It is one of the most photographed places in Bosnia, and the best view is from directly across the river, with the fortress and old houses on the cliff above the falling water.

Things to do

  • The main viewing platform: Stairs lead down to a platform facing the falls. This is the classic photo.
  • The view from above: You can also look down on the falls from the road and town side for free.
  • Jajce old town: The fortress, catacombs and Temple of Mithras are a few minutes' walk uphill (see Jajce Fortress and Old Town).

Getting there

About 2.5 hours by car from Sarajevo, 1.5 hours from Banja Luka. Often combined with Travnik in one day.
