Why visit Tara River Rafting?

The Tara river runs through one of the deepest canyons in Europe, mostly on the Montenegro side, and its lower section forms the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rafting camps on the Bosnian side, near Foča at Brštanovo, run trips down the last stretch of the Tara to Šćepan Polje, where it joins the Piva to form the Drina.

The water is clear, cold and fast, with rapids that are strongest in spring.

What to expect

  • Difficulty: Strong rapids in April and May, when the snow melts. Calmer and better for families in summer.
  • Packages: Most camps offer half-day, full-day and overnight packages with food and simple cabins.
  • Combine with: Sutjeska National Park, about 30 minutes away.
