Vranduk is a small medieval fortress built in the 14th century on a rock above a tight bend of the Bosna river, about 14 km north of Zenica. It guarded the narrow gorge that served as the northern entrance into the heart of the Bosnian kingdom, which is why it is called the "Gate of Bosnia." A tiny old village still sits below the walls. The fortress is run by the Zenica city museum, and in summer it hosts a medieval festival with traditional food, music and archery.
