Why visit War Childhood Museum?
The War Childhood Museum tells the story of the war through the eyes of the people who were children during it. Each exhibit is a single personal object, like a toy, a diary, a ballet shoe or a letter, next to a short story written by the person who owned it. It was founded by Jasminko Halilović, who grew up in besieged Sarajevo, and opened in 2017. In 2018 it won the Council of Europe Museum Prize.
It is quiet, simple and very powerful. Many visitors say it is the museum in Sarajevo that stays with them most.
