Why visit Yellow Fortress (Žuta Tabija)?
The Yellow Fortress, or Žuta Tabija, is a small Ottoman bastion on the hill above Baščaršija. It was built in the early 1700s as part of the Vratnik city walls. Today it is a terrace with a café and the best view in Sarajevo: the whole valley, the minarets, the old town and the mountains all around.
During Ramadan, a cannon is fired from the fortress at sunset to mark iftar, the breaking of the fast. Hundreds of people come up to watch.
