Why visit Trebević Cable Car and Olympic Bobsled Track?
Mount Trebević rises right above Sarajevo's old town, and a cable car takes you up in about 7 minutes. The cable car first opened in 1959, was destroyed during the war when the mountain became a front line, and reopened in 2018.
At the top is one of the most unusual sights in the Balkans: the bobsled and luge track built for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics. It was used as an artillery position in the war and is now abandoned, covered end to end in graffiti and slowly being taken back by the forest. You can walk along and inside it.
Things to do
- The cable car ride: Wide views over the whole city on the way up.
- The Olympic bobsled track: About 1,300 meters of concrete curves through the forest, a short walk from the upper station. Covered in graffiti and street art.
- Trebević nature park: Walking trails, viewpoints and mountain restaurants.
Getting there
The lower station is in the Bistrik neighborhood, a 10-minute walk from Baščaršija across the river.
