Why visit Blagaj Tekke?
The Blagaj Tekke is a dervish monastery built in the 16th century at the foot of a cliff about 200 meters high. Next to it, the Buna river comes out of a cave as one of the largest karst springs in Europe. The white Ottoman house over the clear blue-green water is one of the most beautiful sights in Bosnia.
Things to do
- The tekke: Rooms for prayer and rest, with carpets, low sofas and windows over the water. Visitors can go inside.
- The Buna spring: The cave where the river begins. Boat rides take you to the entrance in summer.
- Stjepan Grad: The ruins of the medieval fortress of Herceg Stjepan on the hill above Blagaj. It is about an hour's hike up, with views over the whole valley.
