Why visit Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque?
The Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque was built in 1618 on the east bank of the Neretva, a short walk from the Old Bridge. It is a working mosque and one of the most visited places in Mostar, for two reasons: its courtyard looks straight at the bridge, and its minaret gives the best view in the city.
Things to do
- The courtyard: The classic postcard photo of Stari Most is taken from its riverside terrace.
- The minaret: A narrow spiral staircase leads to a balcony with views over the bridge, the old town and the mountains. It is tight and steep, so it is not for anyone uncomfortable in small spaces.
- The prayer hall: A simple interior with painted decoration under a single dome.
